Because fans should be critical, too

Announcement: I’m Back!

Which means the long-await Avatar: the Last Airbender/Legend of Korra retrospective will begin, the general animation blog will begin (starting with a quick review of the new Spongebob Squarepants movie), and I can even finish my video review for Frozen (Or: How I Learned to Stop Bitching and Love Hollywood Animation). The possibilities are wide open, but don’t worry: I won’t get ahead of myself this time. We’ll see what happens.

It’s great to have you back, and I cannot to see the new website! You should probably make your own animation analysis channel on youtube too, ala Mr Enter. It would add some much needed analytical variety to the vast number of anime review channels that formulaically rate and praise the latest overhyped show.

That’s awesome Marshall! Glad you seem excited to do this! By begin, does that mean we can expect one tomorrow? Or just whenever it gets done, either way I’m excited. I hope everything is going well for you in your personal life now man.

Ill be honest when I saw this post I got a huge nostalgia feeling because most of my summer in 2012 was just reading your blog, comparing your opinion to my opinion, and being excited about avatar! Now it seems that’s gonna happen once again 🙂

Going by the title of your Frozen video, does that indicate your feelings on Frozen have changed over time? Or is it ironic?

On a side note, once you get everything else up please help kill “Kill la Kill,” it’s popularity is now getting dangerously out of hand. After two years, people just won’t let it die. I may seem like I’m exaggerating, but when supposedly feminist websites are having a huge boner for it for having strong female characters (if Disqus comments on the Mary Sue for every beginner into anime gender article are anything to go by) and guys like this one (http://www.socialjusticesamurai.com/kill-la-kill-women-and-gender-studies-booth/) are bringing this crap to women’s universities because he thinks its has meaningful things to say about women’s sexuality and fashion choices, it generally makes me scared that westerners will normalize the same pedophiliac representations of girls that are now rampant in Japanese magazines and subways. Heck, it’s happened already; when word first came out in January that it would come to Toonami next month, lots of guys on cartoon forums were genuinely scared that the outfits would be censored.

You are right. This has to be one of the most inane things I have ever read. You want to see an anime that is not sexist watch Monster.
