Because fans should be critical, too

Announcement: I Got the Damn Tumblr…

I’m now hosting my videos on this blog, Youtube, and a tumblr page set up solely for the videos. I’m not entirely sure what good it will do me, but it’s worth a shot. I guess for those of you who have tumblr’s [sp?] of your own and know others with tumblrs [sp?], pass it to your friends.

When do you suppose your next two videos will come out?

    • Currently, I’m not sure, but I am doing everything in my power to assure they do as soon as possible.

Marshall do you think at the end of this series of videos you could give a grade for the show? I like your grading you use when reviewing the avatar episodes your 1-15 grade.

    • I probably could, but the thing that made that rating system so perfect for Avatar was that show’s unstable quality from episode to episode, as well its episodic structure. Korra is much more focused and cohesive, which makes judging individual episodes difficult.

Let me put it this way like the Beatles nerd I am: Korra is more like the Abbey Road medley while Avatar is more like The White Album. In the medley, none of the segments where meant to stand on their own as “songs,” instead were put together to produce a larger musical statement; you can only judge the segments by what and how well they contribute to that statement. In The White Album, each song is most definitely a statement in itself, making it easier to analyze how well it communicates said statement. (Then again, The White Album is so brilliantly sequenced that the album as a whole becomes its own statement, but that’s another discussion for another blog.)

      Does this make sense?

hmm, I guess. its just weird, I agree with everyone single one of your flaws about the show with the exception of the boob thing (dont worry I know you’ve dropped that lol) but I agree to varying degrees. Its weird, that’s why I wanted your scores for episodes because even though you claim to hate this book (I believe you) you sure have a lot of things you do like as well. eh, I guess where as I see the good as out weighing the bad in this show, you see it the opposite. oh well, that’s what makes this so fun to watch and debate 🙂 but yeah if you cant give the episodes ratings like your avatar grading scale, could you do it on a letter grade? Or possibly rate the season as a whole? sorry if this is sounding naggy.

        please reply

      • I can do a letter grading. That would actually be much simpler.

Something interesting that I just heard, a Korean animator from Studio Mir (who animated the Legend of Korra), was interviewed and says that Nick suspended production of LOK when they found out it was a girl protagonist. Then, after Nick saw the first episode and witnessed their little boy focus group like it, they told Bryke to give them four seasons from the get-go. How do you think this makes Book one look now in retrospect?

    • Honestly, I’ll need a source before I can even begin to comment on that. But if it is true, then it answers a lot of questions and raises a few more. This is turning into a real mystery…

    • I found the interview. Holy shit.

I’ve also heard this from people: “Bryke came right out and said Asami was the new Appa. That’s how much respect Bryke has for this character.”
